In July 2016, the San Diego City Council voted 8 to 1 to award a long-term lease for the Polo Fields in Del Mar to Surf Cup Sports. The property has been renamed to Surf Cup Sports Park and renovations have begun. The group has also started long-term event and facility planning with a view to restore the property into the premier youth soccer event facility in the nation, while decreasing the overall impact to the surrounding community.
